a bit

August 6, 2013–I was going to update what I’ve already written, but as I read it becomes aware that the person who wrote “About You” in 2009 no longer exists.  I am in Phoenix now, divorced and single.  My mental illness has become more difficult to manage, so I am now officially disabled.  I live alone.  I still love music, but went through a time recently when I couldn’t listen to anything.  I did catch up on some overdue leisure reads, though.  Now I can’t stop listening to music long enough to skim a page.  Arcade Fire is on regular rotation, and bands like Spoon and Frightened Rabbit.  The music I listened to even a year ago hurts.  If I listened to it with my husband, it just doesn’t sound good.  It’s like he got the music in the divorce, along with the house and mutts.  He can have it, there is plenty to go around.  I am almost afraid to ‘type aloud’ the tendency to think that things are going to be ok, but it feels like they might.

I love music, particularly Americana, Texas music, indie folk/rock and singer-songwriters.  Little Dragon, Frightened Rabbit, The Arcade Fire, Florence + the Machine, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper and lots more.

Movies are a passion. I tend to choose them by director, Some of whom I love the most are Pedro Almodovar, Jim Jarmusch, Joel & Ethan Coen, Wim Wenders, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Yimou Zhang, Todd Solondz, Paul Thomas Anderson, Jane Campion, Kevin Smith, Dariush Mehrjui, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Spike Lee, Woody Allen, Sam Mendes and Sally Potter.

I love books but don’t read nearly enough of them, apart from the textbooks I’m assigned in class. I read a fraction of fiction but did enjoy Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. *Update*. I have been reading lots of fiction lately. Middlesex was terrific. Now reading room.
